Remington Medical Resort of San Antonio
named “Best Healthcare Project” for 2009
Vickrey & Associates, Inc. (V&A) provided civil engineering consulting and surveying services for
another award-winning project. Texas Construction Magazine named the Remington Medical Resort of
San Antonio as its “Best Healthcare Project” for 2009 and a finalist for the competition’s top
prize, the “Judges Award.” Remington Medical Resort is a 45,775 square foot luxury transitional
care and rehabilitation center located in the San Antonio Medical Center. The facility offers 60
luxury private suites, rehabilitation gym, therapy pool and spa.
As the civil engineer and surveyor for the project, V&A developed the preliminary plan, site dimension
plan, utility plan, drainage/grading plan, fire protection plan, concrete pavement plan, Storm Water
Pollution Prevention Plan, drainage calculations, and fire flow analysis and report. The site improvements
included 51 standard and 4 handicapped parking spaces along with ADA-compliant access to the front and side
entrances of the building. V&A also provided platting services and prepared topographic and tree surveys, a
Traffic Impact Analysis worksheet, and storm water management plan. V&A coordinated with the city on
right-of-way dedication and provided construction phase services including building permit assistance, preparation
of a CPS Energy (electric and gas service) easement description, construction foundation staking, a slab survey
and a final as-built survey.
Because design of this facility is to be used as a baseline for future similar developments in Texas, extra care was taken to streamline the project, standardize construction methods and incorporate value engineering to reduce costs. V&A worked with owner Remington Rehab Investment Group LLC of Round Rock, general contractor EBCO General Contractor Ltd. and architect Mayse & Associates Inc. throughout the project.
Texas Construction Magazine’s Best of Awards is an annual competition recognizing commercial construction and design excellence in Texas and Oklahoma. “An independent jury of industry experts judged more than 150 nominated projects in mid-September and awarded projects based on entry criteria including safety; innovation; contribution to the community or industry; construction quality and craftsmanship; and function and aesthetic quality of design.”[1]
